Introducing the 1 Maju Student Group Blog Project!
Greetings & welcome to the blog for the SMK Puteri Titiwangsa 1 Maju student group blogs project.
This blog will be the main hub for the project where assignments are explained & justified.
This blog will also link to the students' group blogs & highlight outstanding work.
I am a trainee teacher fondly addressed by my students as Mr Yong.
I was part of a government programme where trainee teachers are sent overseas for a few years to learn the art of second language teaching.
In my case, I was in Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, for my bachelor's degree in Teaching English as a Second Official Language (TESOL).
With my mind fresh with ideas, I decided to come up with a project to carry out with my high-proficiency & high-motivation Form 1 English langauge class, 1 Maju.
This project involves the giving of specific assignments to students for group discussion & writing. After that, they post their works on a blog for the world to see.
The purpose of this project is to provide students who have good language proficiency with an avenue for enrichment & language use within a context.
During the process of the project, they will learn (among others):
- creative writing
- writing for a specific audience
- using pictures to aid understanding of writing
- peer-editing
- leadership skills
- people skills
- team dynamics
- ICT skills
- research skills
- citation skills
Intead of just writing all the time, I am planning to get my students to produce videos & other forms of graphic media that reflects practise of the English language in a specific context.
I will then, get the students to share these productions on their blogs in a cohesive manner.
I hope that this project will inspire a love for the language in the students & help enrich their ability in applying the language.
I also hope to provide a living, working example for like-minded teachers who want to do something relevant & useful with their students.

However, I have to make it clear to you that this project will be terminated if I find your class too difficult to control or too uncooperative.
Therefore, I will need your help to make the project a success!
Be proud because, in the end, the success of this project is not my work...
It's the work of 1 MAJU!
I can only lead, you will have to choose for yourself whether you want to follow or not.
Soon I will stop leading & you will be leading others.
About the lifespan of this blog, I'm sorry to say that I will only post things here during my time with your class.
I like your school very much but I have to leave your school at the end of September.
The government might need me elsewhere.
After I leave, you will have your year end tests & you will all move on to 2 Maju.
However, your next English teacher can take over.
He/She can use this website as a reference & start something of her own!
But do give him/her your love even when he/she prefers not to!
Yeap, I cant sound careless about this because I really want the project to succeed!
